About Bahrain

Bahrain, situated in the Arabian Gulf, has a history dating back millennia. It’s been a center of trade and civilization since ancient times, evidenced by archaeological sites like the Bahrain Fort, which dates back over 4,000 years. Over the centuries, Bahrain has been ruled by various empires, including the Persians, Portuguese, and British, before gaining independence in 1971. Today, it remains a fascinating blend of ancient culture and modern development, offering visitors a glimpse into its rich historical tapestry amidst its contemporary cityscapes and bustling markets.
Circuit History

Formula 1 first arrived in Bahrain at the Bahrain International Circuit in 2004 and has raced at the Bahrain International Circuit since. 2014 was the first time the race was raced at night which has remained the case. It is one of the 6 circuits on the F1 calendar to race during the night. The circuit once hosted two races in the shortened 2020 season with the Bahrain Grand Prix and the Sakhir Grand Prix which used the outer circuit configuration. The architect behind the track is Hermann Tilke.
Track Characteristics

The Bahrain International Circuit is 5.412 kilometers long and the race distance is 57 laps. The total distance covered during the race is 308.238 kilometers. The track surface is considered to be more abrasive and with the increased ambient temperature due to the desert environment, tire degradation is quite high on this circuit. The tarmac material is graywacke aggregate which is known for providing high grip.
Qualifying Results

Max Verstappen tops the timing chart with a Q3 lap time of 1:29:179 which is more than two tenths faster than Charles Leclerc who rounds out the front row. The gap between first and tenth is over a second. Six different teams made an appearance in Q3 while both Alpines are in last and second to last.
Tyre Compounds

Pirelli has been the sole tyre provider for Formula 1 since 2011. They produce various tyres suiting different track conditions. The six dry tyre compounds go from C0 all the way to C5 which each one getting progressively softer. As the tyres get softer, the grip increases, but the tyres degrade quicker. For the 2024 F1 Bahrain GP, Pirelli has selected the C1 to be the hard compound, C2 to be the medium compound, and C3 to be the soft compound. The selection of harder compounds corresponds with the abrasive track surface.
Current Standings

Since this is the first race of the season, no driver has scored any points. The charts reflect the first race by being devoid of data. In future pre-race reports, the charts will display the F1 standings and show the points accumulated in each race. The color of the bar for each driver represents points scored in each F1 race.
