F1 arrives in Spain at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya following Max Verstappen’s win, Mercedes return to form, and Ferrari’s woeful weekend at the Canadian Grand Prix. Will Ferrari be able to return to their form from Monaco or will their woes continue?
About Spain

Spain’s history is a rich tapestry woven from diverse cultural, political, and social threads. The Iberian Peninsula, as Spain was known in ancient times, was inhabited by various groups such as the Iberians, Celts, and Basques. The region came under Roman control in the 2nd century BC, which introduced Roman law, language, and infrastructure. After the fall of the Roman Empire, Spain was conquered by the Visigoths, a Germanic tribe, who ruled until the Islamic Moors from North Africa invaded in the early 8th century. The Moors’ occupation, lasting nearly 800 years, left a profound influence on Spanish culture, evident in its architecture, language, and customs. The Reconquista, a long series of battles between Christian kingdoms and Moorish forces, culminated in 1492 with the Catholic Monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella, reclaiming Granada. This event coincided with Columbus’ voyage to the New World, marking the beginning of Spain’s golden age of exploration and empire. Over the following centuries, Spain experienced a decline in power, internal conflicts, and a civil war in the 20th century, leading to a dictatorship under Francisco Franco. Since returning to democracy in the 1970s, Spain has emerged as a modern, democratic nation with significant influence in global affairs.

Current Standings in F1

After the Canadian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen was able to single handedly grow Red Bull’s lead in the F1 Constructors Championship after Sergio Perez and both Sainz and Leclerc fail to finish the race. This also allows him to grow his lead in the Drivers Championship with a sizable gap to 2nd. Lando Norris’ 2nd place finish has him right behind Charles Leclerc in the drivers championship for 2nd place. The positions of the other teams remains largely unchanged except for McLaren closing the gap to Ferrari.
