Oscar Piastri takes his maiden F1 win at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Although, interesting and questionable strategy calls by McLaren show their lack of experience racing at the front of the pack. The question everyone now asks: Will this affect Lando Norris and his title hunt after relinquishing the win?
Race Progression
The front row lockout for McLaren is converted to a 1-2 finish with Oscar Piastri winning the race after Lando Norris relinquished the position based on team orders. The team radio was interesting to say the least and it was questioned why Oscar wasn’t given the overcut when Lando has the undercut. Lewis Hamilton closes out the podium after a collision with Max Verstappen. Sergio Perez and George Russell make excellent comeback drives after Q1 knockouts to secure points.
F1 Championship Standings
McLaren takes 2nd in the F1 Constructors Championship from Ferrari after the 1-2 finish. Lando Norris could have held onto a win in this race, but opted to give it to Oscar which allows Max Verstappen to keep a larger lead. Lewis Hamilton moves ahead of Sergio Perez in the drivers championship and George Russell could do the same in the near future. Mercedes could potentially bridge the gap to Ferrari with the current state of the car compared to the Ferrari.
