Circuit History

The Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas, is a premier motorsports and entertainment venue that has become a focal point for racing enthusiasts around the world. Opened in 2012, this 3.426-mile track features 20 challenging turns and a significant elevation change, specifically designed to host the Formula One United States Grand Prix. Its innovative layout, inspired by iconic tracks across the globe, offers thrilling races and has also accommodated a variety of other events, including the MotoGP series, NASCAR, and concerts. Beyond its main track, COTA boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including a massive amphitheater and a karting track, making it a versatile hub for both high-octane racing and large-scale entertainment events.

Track Characteristics

The current track layout of the Circuit of the Americas is 5.513 km and the total race distance will be 308.405 km over 56 laps. The circuit is made up of 20 turns, 9 of which are right-handed turns and the other 11 are left-handed turns. The track has two DRS zones located on the start finish straight and between turns 11 and 12.

Lando Norris secures pole yet again with Max Verstappen hot on his heels. George Russell’s crash as the checkered flag was waving prevented any driver from responding to Lando’s pole time. Both Ferraris made it to the second row while Lewis Hamilton was out in Q1. Both Williams were out in Q1 after looking better in previous weekends.

Tyre Compounds

The official tyre provider of Formula 1, Pirelli, has determined that the middle range of tyres are in order for the United States Grand Prix. The C4 compound will be the red-walled soft tyre for this race weekend. The C3 compound will be the yellow-walled medium compound tyres. The C2 compound is the hardest of three compounds and will be the white-walled hard compound this race weekend.

The F1 Constructors Championship is now in the hands of McLaren and it seems that Red Bull won’t be mounting a charge at the end of the season. Lando Norris has his work cut out for him to overtake Max Verstappen in the drivers championship. However, in the remaining six races of the season, two will feature sprint races which give Lando an opportunity to score more points. Max Verstappen has been a force in the sprint races over the past few seasons, but is that enough to keep up with Lando in the McLaren or could we see the driver title slide out from his grasp.
